Frequently Asked Questions
I see in the shop the note says you have a wait list. Is that still accurate?
Yes.
Can I pay extra to expedite my order?
In an effort to be fair to everyone, I don't allow much cutting in line. Orders will often end up shipping a day or two ahead of schedule as my workflow allows but if you want something right now that has a noted wait list, it's likely not possible. Once it is ready to ship, it is possible to expedite your shipping. See the shipping page for information.
Do you do custom orders?
Perhaps. Custom orders are taken on as my schedule allows and if your laptop/gadget is a good candidate. See the Custom Order page for more information on how to make a request. Custom-sized items are only possible if it is being shipped within the US and if I have time.
I’m trying to choose my size. How do I know what model/generation my gadget is?
Check with your manufacturer. Apple users can navigate to "About This Mac" or similar on their devices for system information. Apple users can also use this site as a great resource for specifications of past models. Still not sure? Contact Me.
I live in/around Minneapolis. Can I pick up my order?
My studio is not open to the public but I may be able to discount your shipping costs as the shipping on certain items within the city is usually $2-$4 lower. Contact me and we can find a solution.
I’ve placed my order, when will it ship?
Thanks for your order! Information about wait times and shipping times can be found in the description of the item you purchased. Also, I publish my Studio Calendar online so you can see where you are on my schdule.
How will I know when my order has shipped?
I will send an email to the email address you entered during checkout. It will include the address it is being shipped to and any Delivery Confirmation information your particular order may have.
How are the items shipped?
byrd & belle is very mindful of the packaging used to ship your items. Envelopes and boxes are are clean, crisp and new but always contain some measure of recycled material and they themselves are always recyclable. If you have a delivery location that is exposed to a lot of water/weather, let me know and I'll happily pack it in something more protective but for the most part, I try to avoid any plastics in my packaging.
I have more shipping questions. Can you help?
I have an entire section on Shipping & Handling included a group of 'Frequently Asked International Shipping Questions'. You can find them here: shipping & handling
How do I clean 100% wool felt?
Dry cleaning: This is best way to go with 100% wool felt but a lot of dry cleaners won’t work with anything that isn’t clothing. Do not use a product like dryel. Any heat and moisture will continue to felt your piece. The #1 thing to keep in mind is avoiding the combination of hot water and friction.
Hand Wash: Lightly brush as much of the dirt, dust, etc. off as you can while the item is still dry. If whatever has gotten on your felt is in liquid form, avoid rubbing it. Using cool or cold water, daub water onto the problem area. Avoid any contact with any leather. Gently press water out of felt without rubbing. Do nut rub; it will cause the felt surface to get fuzzy, Repeat applying and remove the cool water until spot is gone. If you can position the case/sleeve to allow the spot to soak in cold water, it may soak overnight if needed. When complete, air dry. Felt may feel stiff at first but will regain its softness when handled.
Wool has antibacterial properties but to remove smells, try applying lemon juice. Lemons contain antibacterial and antiseptic properties on top of naturally removing odor. Mix lemon juice and water and proceed as outlined above.
